I'm Still Kicking Myself . . .

So, we had our annual evening at the ballpark with the company my hubby works for. The food is free, the stadium is brand new, the boys are obsessed with baseball, so it's pretty much the perfect night out for our family! And what do you know, my hubby's name gets pulled out of the hat at work to be the one to throw out the first pitch to represent the company. (There's like 20+ people representing other companies and special things lined up to throw this "first" pitch - but, hey, it's still a pretty big deal, in our opinion!) So, my sweet hubby is allowed to take one person out with him, thus, our oldest is chosen, and not much could take his mind off of this upcoming event for the preceding two weeks! And the youngest was just as excited for his big brother!

The big night arrives and I, of course, was on camera duty in the front row behind home plate. But being the novice photographer that I am, the split second I had to take the shot of my son throwing out his first pitch to the real live L.V. Iron Pigs catcher . . .

was a big BLUR!
I forgot to take into account the netting hanging in front of me when I zoomed in.
And no chance for a second shot! :(

Yeah, I have these other nice pictures, but the most important shot, . . . oh well!  It was a very special night for my boys, even if I didn't get the perfect picture of it. :)

Garrett got to keep his first pitch baseball, and Carson got to pick out a toy bat in the gift shop for having such a good attitude about his big brother being the one to go out on the field and throw that pitch!

I'm sure we'll be going again next year, but this year's game will always be an extra special ballgame memory! :)

It's Been Sew Long . . .

I have been hankering to have some alone time with this machine for awhile now, but other things kept getting in the way! One very major obstruction was that my husband's hobbies were taking over our shared hobby room! My little sewing corner was being suffocated by all manner of guy stuff!  Finally, after trying to stand my ground and protect my corner, I decided it would be more productive to actually work on sewing projects with what little time I have for that sort of thing, instead of wasting those precious minutes defending my space!

Thus, I have temporarily set up camp on the dining room table! And guess what? I actually got a bunch of sewing done! The mending pile was first, then some fun stuff I've been wanting to work on. I'm excited to work on more things and learn a little more about sewing. I'm very thankful that my Mom taught me how to use a sewing machine while I was growing up, but I definitely need to brush up on my skills and learn a bit more. My in-laws bought me my beautiful machine a few Christmases ago, and I absolutely love it!

The plan is to set up a sewing area in a corner of our large attic bedroom, but I'll probably always tote what I'm working on downstairs to the dining room table. At least for now, I've gotten out of that claustrophobic "man room" and I'm sewing once again! :)

"Baby" Bro - A Few Pics

Just feeling a bit sniffley (sp?) thinking about my little brother growing up!

Sorry these pics are small and blurry, but I stole them from John's Facebook page! :)
They're just a snippet of who he is!

Ever the adventurer!

This face is a look he gives a lot, so I had to include it! :)
Best Buds! (must be Home Ec. class or something!)
Really, it's just Airsoft, whatever that is!
His Old Man hat! I don't get it, but so be it!
John, the tourist!

If I had a scanner, I would be including his baby pics! :)

Baby Brother Graduates!

I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that my little baby brother has graduated from High School and is headed off to college! I remember when my Mom and Dad sat us older three (me - 16, Jerry - 15, and Sarah - 12) down in our living room and told us that they had something special to tell us about Mom, and it was going to change our family forever in a wonderful way!  Of course, being the little snoop that I was, I already had a pretty good inkling of what this amazing news was.  I was a talented eavesdropper and had just "happened" to overhear Mom whispering to Dad in the kitchen a month or so before this, that she was LATE! :)

Thus, baby John appeared on the scene altering our lives forever.  My mom had him in a birthing room at our doctor's office, and was home on our living room couch with him seven hours after giving birth. I'll never forget walking into the house and seeing that little bundle, eyes wide open checking out his big sister. My sweet mother, after giving birth to him at the age of 38, was a little wiped out, and ended up having some complications later in the week. She recovered just fine, but this gave me a lot of opportunity to experience taking care of a newborn in those first few weeks of John's life. (Dad, Jerry, Sarah, grandmoms, and many others helped~it wasn't all me, by any means!) Baby John was definitely a special little guy to all of us. We've always looked at him as a precious gift from God to our family!  Us older three are all married now, my sister and I with two children each, and John is now officially an "adult" heading out into the big, wide world! :) My parents are FINALLY empty-nesters, or will be, come September when John heads off to Northland.

John has definitely changed our family in a special way, and is an amazing guy! Mom and Dad have always said, they don't know where he came from being that he's SO different from the rest of us. :)  We love our "little" John and know God has great plans for his life. And I am continuing to pray that his heart stays tender toward God and His leading. LOVE YOU, JOHN!!!!!

It's Zoo Time!

We wanted to have a special family day to celebrate Garrett's kindergarten completion! So, we decided to spend Memorial Day visiting a local zoo and picnicking by the creek there. The boys were beyond excited for this special day! We visited this zoo two years ago, but they were doing some renovations and not all of the animals were there. Plus, Carson was only two and had no memory of it.

It turned out to be 90+ degrees on Memorial Day this year, and Carson was getting over a fever of some kind. But there was no way we were canceling, so we packed a lot of ice water and off we went! Here are just a few of the pictures I took!  Sorry, "few" is probably the wrong word ~ I have a difficult time choosing!  :)

African Penguins - a brand new exhibit!
The Wolf Den Replica - Garrett's favorite thing last time we visited this zoo!
On to the otters!
This snow owl was one of Carson's favorite things in the zoo!
Then it was inside the lorakeet cage - boy, did they think this was cool!
Now these are the faces of some satisfied customers! :)
Taking a much needed ice water break while we waited for the penguin feeding presentation!
This was a very friendly peacock!
On to petting the goats!
Carson was beginning to wear out, so he hitched a ride the rest of the way! :)
Don't think the kangaroos were big fans of the heat, or else they're nocturnal - I don't know!
Prairie Dogs are the funniest creatures ~
Carson and Daddy are having a chuckle because we just left the Bobcat exhibit and
when Carson saw the Prairie Dogs, he accidentally called them Prairie Cats! :)

After getting a special toy in the gift shop it was time to have some lunch and hit the creek!

It was a wonderful day full of memories and we're looking forward to making lots more memories throughout this coming summer!
